Two years ago, we walked into a local public school’s Exceptional Children’s Resource Fair and found ourselves standing in a hall filled with organizations offering support we had never heard of in our 12 years of special-needs parenting.
We left overwhelmed.
Not because there weren’t resources. There were plenty. The problem was that we had no idea where to find them, how to navigate them, or where to begin.
That night, one thing became clear: it shouldn’t be this hard.
Families caring for loved ones with special needs and disabilities already carry enough. The journey can be isolating, exhausting, and filled with questions that don’t come with easy answers. Parents shouldn’t have to become expert researchers just to find the help their families need.
So we decided to build what we wished we had found that night: a place where families can discover resources, find community, receive encouragement, and experience belonging.
Polkadot Parent was born.
Today, we’re working to make sure no family has to walk into that overwhelming hall alone. We're connecting families to resources, hosting spaces where they can belong, and designing inclusive creative experiences where loved ones with special needs have the opportunity to discover what they can do, surprise themselves with their own abilities, and give their caregivers something that can feel incredibly rare: a YES.
YES to participation.
YES to inclusion.
YES to trying something new.
YES to being celebrated for what they bring.
YES to experiencing joy without having to explain, apologize, or adapt.
Your gift helps make sure families find a way forward with support, creativity, and something truly priceless: belonging.
